Our Philosophy: Adult Education as Spiritual Formation
At Centerpoint we desire to nurture a culture of learning in community with others where participants can learn from gifted teachers while also connecting with others in the church. In some churches this is called "Sunday School" or "Adult Education", but we like to think of it more as Spiritual Formation because we want to remember that our goal in our adult classes is not just to obtain knowledge about our faith, but to have that knowledge transform us into the image of Christ in community with others.
Our Adult Education at Centerpoint has three goals:
- We Teach to "Inform" the Christian Faith: Centerpoint's Adult Education program engages church attendees where they are in their pilgrimage and helps them go deeper into, with the truth of Scripture, so that they are steadily increasing in their knowledge of, confidence in, and practice of the Christian faith.
- We Teach to "Form" Christian Character: We seek to create learning environments that stimulate personal and corporate growth in the character of Christ. Our Adult Education classes are not simply "show up and attend" atmospheres, they are communities where you will be challenged to not only change how you think, but also how you live.
- We to Teach to "Equip" Everyone for Christian Service: Participants will discover their spiritual gifts, learn about places in the life of the local church and her surrounding communtieis where those gifts can be used to bring the good news in word and deed, and then be challenged to step out into that missionary service.
